General Practitioner (GP)

Your local GP (general practitioner) can deal with a broad range of physical, mental and emotional problems.

You'll need to make an appointment with your GP after registering at the surgery.

GPs treat all common medical conditions and can refer patients to hospital and other medical services for urgent and specialist care.

As well as finding out what’s causing your symptoms and treating them, your GP can provide health education, offer advice on smoking, diet, sexual health and contraception, give vaccinations (injections), and may carry out simple surgery.

If you have an urgent (but non-life threatening) medical need that cannot wait until your GP surgery reopens, you can telephone NHS 111. They may refer you to the out-of-hours GP service in Devon, called Devon Doctors, if needed.
