Emergency Department
Our Emergency Department (also known as Accident and Emergency or A&E) is here to help people who are seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round.
A highly experienced team of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff will care for you in an emergency.
People come to us via ambulance or by arriving at the ED main entrance and booking in with reception staff. If you need an ambulance please call 999.
Serious and life-threatening emergencies
- loss of consciousness
- severally confused state and fits that are not stopping
- chest pain
- breathing difficulties
- severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
- severe allergic reactions
- severe burns or scalds
- stroke
- major trauma, such as a road traffic accident
Non-life-threatening emergencies
If your situation is not life threatening, then another service may be more appropriate and quicker to access - see other urgent care options in 'Urgent Help'.
