Learn more about MY CARE, the RD&E’s major clinical transformation programme

The RD&Es new corporate strategy sets our ambition to lead the transformation of the health and care system so that we can continue providing safe, high quality seamless services delivered with courtesy and respect to people and communities in Devon. The Trust has a long track record of having a great team of people who continually deliver service improvement for the benefit of patients and collectively we have made big strides over the last few years on preventing hospital admission, keeping people healthy and supported at home and in their communities, and improving the overall experience of our patients.. But we know that future challenges facing the NHS nationally and locally around a growing population (particularly in our older aged group), more complex patient needs for our services as well as needing to deliver future care in a more efficient and cost effective way means that we have to  transform what we do and the way we do it.

This means that we will need to listen to people in a different way to hear their views; we will need to connect all parts of the community (public, patients, carers and staff) and we will need to work together to find innovative and more sustainable ways to deliver care in the future. By working together we can continue to deliver high quality, sustainable care and services in a way which frees you, our staff,  from many of the inefficiencies and frustrations our current ways of working  create, so you’re better able to deliver the standard of care you joined the NHS to give.

To enable us to meet this vision, the Trust has decided to invest in a new clinically led transformation programme which is enabled by the introduction of new technology.  The Programme is called MY CARE and at its heart will be a new state-of-the-art Electronic Patient Record (EPR). Due to go live in summer 2020, MY CARE will be a major step forward for the RD&E to establish the future care model which is better for our patients and public, and which will enable us to create a great working environment which we are all proud to work in.

Through the MY CARE Programme, we will collectively, for the first time ever, have a digital health record that documents in real time every aspect of a patient’s care, from their latest medication to their treatment and test results.  Patients, their clinical teams and others involved in their care (for example a carer or nominated member of their family) will be able to securely view the record anytime, anywhere, on any device - the days of logging on to multiple systems and hunting down pieces of paper around the hospital will end.

This will fundamentally change what we do but it will, even more importantly, drive new ways of working unimaginable without a having access to digital health records at our fingertips. It’s a genuine clinically led transformation in the way we do things at the RD&E – it’s much more than just a new computer system.
