Statement on Porters' strike action

A Trust spokesman said: “The Trust remains fully committed to bringing this dispute to a peaceful conclusion without the need for strike action and in this spirit we have formally requested the assistance of the ACAS mediation service. The talks represent a real opportunity to pause the current dispute and explore a positive and constructive way forward using a tried and tested process.

“We are therefore deeply disappointed to learn that Unison has refused to suspend or postpone its planned and potentially disruptive strike action while the ACAS talks take place. We would urge Unison to fully commit to the ACAS process and actively consider removing their threat of imminent strike action until the talks have run their course. In our view the planned action is both premature and unnecessary.

“In the event of strike action going ahead we have put in place robust and safe contingency plans to mitigate any impact on our patients. We advise all patients to attend their appointments as normal on the planned strike days unless contacted otherwise.”
