Fundraising boost means Radiology are on track with Big Raise campaign

The Radiology Team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are well on their way to achieving their goal of giving an x-ray room a child friendly makeover thanks to a recent fundraising boost.

Through their ‘Big Raise for Little Rays’ campaign, the department plans to make the clinical area more welcoming and less frightening for children who need to have an x-ray by decorating a room with a fun theme and installing a ceiling projector.

The team launched the campaign in spring 2015 and have since received fantastic support from staff, patients and the local community.

Radiology Nurse Sarah Essery recently organised a number of events, including a 170 prize raffle, which raised £1600 towards the total. Whilst a mum, whose daughter had been looked after by the team, was so impressed with their efforts she organised a fundraising evening at the Cat and Fiddle Inn at Clyst St Mary, contributing a further £335 to the pot.

Paediatric Lead Radiographer Katie Swann said: “Along with other events held throughout the year and some generous donations from patients, the Big Raise for Little Rays fundraising total now stands at £3660! Plans for the x-ray room renovation are still in the pipeline although we are hoping to go ahead later in the year.”
