Carers Get the One to One Treatment at Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital

Carers at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital are being offered free one to one health and wellbeing checks as part of the raft of activities on offer during National Carers’ Week.

“Carers are an absolutely integral part of patient care here at the RD&E,” says Associate Director of Midwifery and Patient Care Tracey Reeves. “We really value their input, but they often sacrifice their own health when it comes to their caring role. We know just how much time and effort our carers put into looking after their loved ones often giving up work or reducing their hours to provide adequate care. We are passionate about providing them with the essential support they need to help ease the strain.”

This announcement comes on the day that new research issued by a coalition of eight leading charities was released highlighting that eight in 10 carers said their responsibilities had caused them health problems, including everything from back pain to insomnia. And two fifths said they had delayed seeking medical help with some reporting that had had serious consequences, such as delayed cancer diagnoses and damage to lungs.

If you are a carer or know of a carer who would benefit from a one to one health and wellbeing check, call the RD&E Health Information Centre for an appointment on 01392 402071.
