A birch tree was planted and dedicated by hospital chaplain Juliet Horwood in the grounds of the former Heavitree maternity hospital, which served generations of local people for over 50 years.

A flowering cherry tree was put outside the Centre for Women’s Health at Wonford which has provided maternity and specialist neo natal services to the local community since 2007. Staff representatives of the gynaecology, maternity and neonatal services attended the short ceremonies. In Juliet’s words: “The old hospital building (at Heavitree) may now be gone but it is the people who deliver the care and compassion remembered so fondly by many and which continues at Wonford.”
