Dento-alveolar and Oral Surgery

Dento-alveolar surgery is the surgical treatment of disorders of the teeth and their supporting hard and soft tissues.

It covers a range of procedures, such as removing complicated impacted wisdom teeth or surgery after mouth trauma.

More on what we do

Dento-alveolar operations are some of the most common procedures that our surgeons perform.

Dento-alveolar surgery involves:

  • Removing complicated or impacted teeth or tooth roots
  • Removing simple teeth for medically compromised patients
  • Removal of jaw cysts
  • Treatment of dental abscess and infections
  • Taking biopsies of soft tissue conditions which affect the oral cavity

This is not routine dentistry. Patients are usually referred to us by their family dentist or by their GP

Surgical treatments usually carried out using local anaesthetic.

Treatments for anxious patients can be carried out under local anaesthetic with intravenous sedation (an injection of a sedative drug through a plastic tube into a vein in your arm or hand. The sedative drug will relax you and make you feel sleepy).

More complex treatments are carried out under general anaesthetic (where medicines are used to send you to sleep). This is usually done as a day case procedure.
