Emergency and urgent care

Our Emergency Department (also known as Accident and Emergency or A&E) helps people who show signs of serious illness or are badly injured.

People come to us via ambulance or by booking in at reception.

Our highly experienced team of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff will help you in an emergency but please think carefully before coming straight to the Emergency Department.

Our increasingly busy service should be used only in serious or life-threatening situations.

There is a range of other urgent care services available which might be better suited to your needs, including our minor injuries units (MIUs) and walk-in centre (WIC).

If you’re not sure which service is best for you, please visit 111.nhs.uk or phone 111 for guidance.
