Sarcomas are a rare group of cancers found in the body’s connective tissues, such as bone, cartilage, fat, blood vessels, nerves and muscles. Sarcomas can broadly be divided into either bone or soft tissues. Although related, bone and soft tissue sarcomas need quite different types of treatment.

The Exeter Sarcoma Centre specialises in the care and treatment of patients with soft tissue sarcomas. We provide the best possible care for patients who are diagnosed sarcomas. We provide support, information, counselling and education to you and your relatives and carers throughout treatment.

A cancer diagnosis has a great impact on patients and carers, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. We aim to provide the highest possible standard of care for all our patients at every stage in their pathway.

More on what we do

The sarcoma team provide a diagnostic and treatment service for patients with suspected or confirmed sarcoma after referral from the GP or another healthcare professional.

Soft tissue sarcoma treatment usually involves surgery to remove the tumour. This might be followed by chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. Your treatment will depend on where the cancer developed, the type of sarcoma it is, how far it has spread, your age and your general health. Our team will discuss the most appropriate kind of treatment for you.
