F1 - Emergency Medicine

The department

Exeter is a large District General Hospital with a newly built Emergency Department seeing approximately 60,000 patients per year.  It is an excellent place for medical training, as doctors will be exposed to a wide variety of medical, surgical and trauma emergencies. The Department is run by seven Emergency Consultants and has a 24-hour Middle Grade cover based within the Department.  Trainees are part of the 24-hour Consultant led Trauma Team, which is served by a purpose built helipad and supported by excellent in-hospital acute services. The F1 trainee will be supervised by a senior doctor at all times, with the majority of supervision being Consultant based.  There is a strong commitment to teaching with weekly 2.5 hours protected time teaching including scenario based practical sessions.
