Teenage and Young Adults Events and Activities


The TYA Support Team organises a night out on a 6 weekly basis for you to join us for a meal and an opportunity to meet other young people who have experience of cancer.


The TYA Support Team will also keep you informed of other events and activities that may interest you.



In June 2018 we visited the Brewer’s Fayre in Exeter for our TYA Peer Support Night Out.













January's TYA Peer Support Night Out

We have continued to hold TYA Peer Support Nights Our during 2017 and visited the Skylark in Wellington for our first night out in 2018.







On the 13th of December we had a TYA Xmas meal at the Toby Carvery in Exeter.











On Tuesday the 11th of October We enjoyed a night out at Nando’s in Taunton

In August we met at Nandos in Exeter and on 28th September we held an evening at the Force Cancer Support Centre exploring 'when the treatment finishes...'




July’s TYA Night Out

We visited the Skylark in Wellington on Tuesday 19th July for our regular TYA Night Out




May’s TYA Night Out

On 24th May we visited the Jack In The Green in Rockbeare, near Exeter, for an enjoyable evening.



On Monday 16th May we returned to Haven Banks for some more canoeing. It was a beautiful evening and we managed to avoid getting too wet!



On Wednesday 20th April six TYA’s and members of their families came together with the TYA Team and Paul Grace, Support Specialist, to reflect on ‘when the treatment finishes…’ at the Force Cancer Support Centre


On Tuesday 22nd March we visited the Griffin Harvester in Taunton for our regular night out





We returned to Haven Banks on Tuesday 22nd February for some more climbing and caving.









For our first TYA Night Out of 2016 we returned to the Brewer's Fayre in Exeter




For our TYA Christmas Night Out we returned to the World's End, Bradford-on-Tone. We ate Christmas dinner, pulled crackers, told terrible jokes and thought about our New Year's resolutions.




On Thursday 19th November we went climbing and caving at Haven Banks. We developed some  new skills working as part of a team on Haven Banks’ artificial climbing wall and  in their artificial caving system followed by the opportunity to relax and share a pizza.




Find Your Sense of Tumour


Five TYA’s, accompanied by Lorraine, attended this years Find Your Sense of Tumour weekend conference for young people who've had cancer at Center Parcs near Nottingham. Find Your Sense of Tumour gives young people the opportunity to attend workshops and activities plus plenty of time to chill out and enjoy the fantastic surroundings.




November Night Out



On Tuesday 3rd November we went to the new Brewers Fayre near the Met Office in Exeter for our regular night out.


We were joined by Dan Honey, the new CLIC Sargent Young Person's Community Worker who will be supporting TYA's in Devon and Somerset. We were also joined by Jen and Fran from Bristol who came to seek ideas about how to develop and improve services for young people in the South West who have been diagnosed with cancer/





On Wednesday 23rd September 2015 we went canoeing at Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre. The session allowed us to learn the basic skills of how to paddle a canoe in pairs and to give us the confidence to develop these skills on a short trip on the Exeter Canal where we played some silly games (and all managed to fall into the canal!!).




For September's TYA Night Out we visited the World's End Pub Restaurant in Bradford-on-Tone



When the treatment finishes....


Four young people attended the Force Cancer Support Centre with family and friends on 2nd September to explore 'when the treatment finishes...'




TYA Summer 2015 Night Out

On Tuesday 28th July we visited the Malthouse Harvester in Exeter for our regular nighr out.




Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust

Between 15th and 18th June 2015 seven TYA’s went sailing on the Solent  with the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust. The Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust takes young people aged between 8-24 sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer.



June's TYA Night Out


Our TYA Night Out in June 2015 was to the Quantock Restaurant at Somerset College. We were looked after extremely well and had a great evening.




Young Patients Take A Health and Wellbeing Retreat


On Wednesday 20th May young people from the South West, including several who have been treated in Exeter and Taunton, met in Newquay for a day emphasising the importance of health and wellbeing following cancer treatment. See more at:



When the treatment finishes..


On Wednesday 15th April we had an evening at the Force Cancer Support Centre with support specialist Sarah Delfont, where we explored ‘when the treatment finishes…’ and ate lots and lots of pizza’
