Children and young people

The RD&E provides acute (hospital) care for children and young people. Our Children and Young People’s service (also known as Paediatric service), looks after babies, children and teenagers, together with other specialist services such as the emergency department, surgery and dental services.

Our Children and Young People’s Unit is called Bramble; including a Day Case Unit, Bramble Ward, a High Dependency Unit (for critical care), and the hospital school. Young people (from 16 to 18 years old) can choose to stay on an adult ward if they prefer.

Our experienced and friendly team of specialist children's doctors (paediatricians), nurses, therapists, healthcare assistants, play specialists and other staff will do all they can to provide you and your family/carers with the best possible care.
