Welcome to the RILD (Research Innovation Learning & Development) Building
The RILD is a state-of-the-art facility that houses a number of seminar rooms, a lecture theatre and specialist medical training rooms. These rooms are available for hire for both NHS and non-NHS organisations.
The RILD is located and situated close to Exeter City centre, making it an ideal location for visitors and conference attendees. The RILD centre is easy to find, with excellent local transport links and overnight accommodation just a short walking distance away.
Whether it is two or 130 people, RILD is the perfect location to have that meeting, seminar or conference.
More about us
Room rentals are available seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.
We have a large variety of different-sized rooms, all fully accessible, and all with AV and interactive whiteboards, with Wi-Fi available throughout. There is a dedicated team on hand to help, and refreshments and catering are available on request.
We can also arrange a host of away-day packages to incorporate various team building activities.
The RILD is on the Royal Devon and Exeter (Wonford) Hospital site, located on Barrack Road, Exeter, EX2 5DW.
Our hospital site
The hospital is based on a large site, housing many of our acute clinical services and specialist centres.
The main hospital building is home to many of our acute services and wards.
The wards and other accessible areas are listed in alphabetical order. Next to each ward/area is a coloured circle with a letter in it, indicating which level and where the ward/area is. You will also find a site map near each of the hospital entrances.
The hospital is easily accessible using public transport and other sustainable means of travel.
We are well served by local bus routes, from across Devon. A number of services stop at the hospital, whereas others require a connection with a local bus route from Exeter City Centre.
Both the main Exeter train stations, St Davids and Exeter Central, are around three miles from the hospital and are served by buses that travel directly to our site.
For help planning your journey and the latest timetables please visit the websites below:
The hospital site is around one and a half miles from Exeter City centre and takes approximately 30 minutes on foot.
Bike paths run throughout Exeter and the hospital site is easily accessible by bike. Bike parking is available across the site, particularly outside the main hospital entrance.
Park and Ride
There is a Park and Ride bus service from the Sowton Park and Ride site (EX2 5GL), which is situated just off the M5 (Junction 30) to the east of the city. See the map below.
The buses go directly to the RD&E Wonford site, stopping at the Peninsula Medical School (RILD), the Hospital's main entrance, and the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC). The buses also stop at the Digby Park and Ride site, which is for RD&E staff only.
The Park and Ride is one of the most cost-effective forms of transport, with an adult return costing £2 (£1.50 single) and a child return costing £1 (80p single).
A return ticket is only £1.50 for all English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) pass holders.
Car parking onsite is limited, with a number of paid car parks. We encourage visitors to use public transport and other sustainable means of travel whenever possible.
The RILD has its own restaurant available. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm.
For details about what other facilities are available on the Wonford site, please visit the Wonford Hospital page.
