RD&E launches new rheumatoid arthritis support group

30 Jul 2021

The RD&E and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) have joined together to create the Exeter Area Rheumatoid Arthritis Group, which launches next week.

The group will meet regularly, offer mutual support and information for patients with the aim of living well with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Closely linked with the RD&E Rheumatology Department, the group will receive input  from RD&E Rheumatology specialist staff and will be invited to contribute to the development of services.

The launch event on 4 August will include a presentation from representatives of NRAS, a keynote talk from Dr Susie Earl, Consultant Rheumatologist and Clinical Lead for Rheumatology at the RD&E and Dr Doug Crix, Clinical Psychologist, Rheumatology. There will be an interview with Kim Beddow, Service Manager at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and Cynthia Rees, NRAS Swansea Group Co-ordinator on how they work in partnership to support those living with RA in their community.

Dr Doug Crix, Clinical Psychologist, Rheumatology at the RD&E, said: “We are very pleased to work with the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society on this initiative. We recognise that Rheumatoid Arthritis can impact on all areas of an individual’s life. We are keen that patients are supported to live well with their condition and believe this is best achieved by working together.”
