MY CARE: Transforming Care Together

The Trust has a long track record of having a great team of people who continually deliver service improvement for the benefit of patients.

However, there are future challenges facing the NHS, nationally and locally, around a growing and aging population, more complex patient needs, managed by many different healthcare professionals.

We have to deliver future care in a more efficient and cost effective way - this means that we have to transform what we do and the way we do it.

Healthcare is complex – MY CARE will improve the experience for our patients, carers and staff by joining up care and connecting people in a way we cannot today - enabled by a single electronic patient record system (EPR).

At the heart of MY CARE are people – those that require healthcare and services (our public and patients) together with those who are entrusted to deliver healthcare and services (our staff).

The Royal Devon and Exeter is the first Trust in the UK to launch a new way of delivering healthcare enabled by an electronic patient record system in both acute and community settings.

Technology on its own won’t make this happen – we are working with hundreds of staff, patients and carers to redesign how we deliver healthcare.

There are many benefits that MY CARE will provide for patients and staff:

“The most precious thing you give to someone is your time.”

All of these benefits will give staff more time with patients by being able to work smarter not harder.

Ultimately, we want to improve patient outcomes and experience.

Why now? It has taken nearly six years of hard work to secure national approval and funding for the Programme. Work began to get the initial MY CARE Outline Business Case produced in 2013.

The Trust received national approval from NHS Improvement to proceed with the programme in June 2018. There are five phases to deliver over the next two years.

MY CARE will GO-LIVE with our new EPR system on 27 June 2020!
