Based in Exeter, the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is the city’s largest employer, serving the acute healthcare needs of a diverse community.  The RD&E provides acute hospital services to around 350,000 people in Exeter, East Devon and Mid Devon and offers specialist services such as cancer care, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopaedic surgery, paediatric care and renal services to people further afield in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Somerset and Dorset.

We recognise the diversity we bring to work makes the RD&E workplace richer and helps us better serve patients from diverse backgrounds. The "Our commitment to you" webpages spell out how we support diversity in the workforce.

We are pleased to have won four awards for our work in recognising and valuing the diversity of our staff.

The Trust recognises the exceptional work of our employees and in recognition of this the Trust has created a variety of initiatives and schemes to help support the commitment and hard work of our dedicated workforce.

The Trust holds a commitment to the support and development of all our staff and this supported by managers creating Personal Development Plans (PDPs) with their staff in order to identify any areas for them to learn and develop within the hospital. These are then used in conjunction with our comprehensive Learning and Development Department who can offer a range of training from clinical skills and managment sills training to customer care and pre-retirement course.

As well as this the Trust has set up benefits and discounts for its entire staff.  These benefits range from discounts in many major high street shops, subsidised travel on public transport and more specialised local discounts in many shops, cafes and restaurants around Exeter and Devon.

These are just some of the reasons why we continue to stand out. As Exeter’s largest employer, calling upon the excellent efforts of more than 5,500 people, we are passionate about offering rewarding, enjoyable work.

And remember it’s not simply doctors, nurses and medical experts that play a part in caring for our communities. Far from it. We also rely upon the talents of hundreds of non-medical staff from catering assistants to medical secretaries, cleaners to accountants, IT experts to maintenance, it really is a massive team effort.
