The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital met the essential standards of quality and safety when the Care Quality Commission made an unannounced inspection of termination of pregnancy services.

The focus of the inspection visit to the RD&E Wonford hospital on 21 and 23 March 2012 was to assess the use of forms to certify the grounds under which a termination of pregnancy may lawfully take place. This was to check that termination of a pregnancy was not performed without two certificated opinions from doctors which is a requirement of the Abortion Act 1967. The inspectors looked at a random sample of medical records for 11 patients and found all the paperwork was completed as required.

The CQC inspection findings confirmed that our patients can be confident that their hospital and medical records are accurate, and they remain confidential and are securely stored.
