Inspirational RD&E hospital renal patient Thomas Hack savoured every moment when he was an Olympic Torch bearer

Thomas Hack

The 19-year-old, who has received his renal dialysis treatment at the RD&E for the past two years, was diagnosed at the age of seven with a form of tissue death (necropathy) and his kidneys failed when he was 17. Thomas has not let his health challenges get in the way of throwing himself into major projects including charity working for a month in Kenya.

He was nominated to run with the Olympic torch through his home town of Ilfracombe by his father. Thomas was bowled over by the fantastic support he received from the thousands of people who lined the streets and cheered him on. He now has his sights on a career in the police force when he completes his studies at Duchy College.
