The accreditation standards were developed in response to the report by National Director for Health and Work, Dame Carol Black, which examined the health of Britain’s working age population and the quality of support services currently in place. The SEQOHS Accreditation Scheme is a workforce focused scheme based on the principle of independent assessment against recognised standards. It is available to occupational health services across the UK in the NHS and independent sector.

RD&E Occupational Health Nurse Manager Kate Underwood said: “We are delighted that we are the first in the South West to achieve this accreditation. This was a real team effort and it reflected the high standards we deliver in our wide-ranging services.”

Occupational health is the promotion and maintenance of health and well being at work and the team regularly undertake activities such as workplace risk assessment, health surveillance, stress counselling and medical advice on sickness absence or early retirements.

Exeter Occupational Health Service, which is part of the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, provides a comprehensive range of occupational health services to the RD&E and other regional NHS trusts.
