RD&E consultant given prestigious honour in recognition of his work


A Royal Devon and Exeter consultant has been made a distinguished fellow of the Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) in recognition ofhis outstanding work in this specialist field.

Professor Watkinson The CIRSE Fellowship honours physicians and scientists who have made a significantcontribution. Professor Tony Watkinson is a consultant interventional radiologist - using radiologic imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. 

Professor Watkinson said: "I am very honoured to be made a distinguished fellow of CIRSE for 2011. Being recognised by your peers around the world for the work we do is very gratifying.  The speciality of Interventional Radiology has made significant advances in the last 20 years and has witnessed the introduction of several minimally invasive procedures which have obviated the need for major surgery."

CIRSE is a non-profit making, educational and scientific association aiming to improve patient care through the support of teaching, science, research and clinical practice in the field of cardiovascular and interventional radiology. The society headquarters are in Vienna, Austria, and it currently has about 4,200 members.
