RD&E appoints Joint Medical Director

The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Vaughan Lewis as the Joint Medical Director.

Dr Lewis will take up his new post on 1 April 2011 when Dr Vaughan Pearce comes to the end of his tenure in this role.

The former Cambridge & Oxford medical student was Bristol-based for paediatric training, and as a registrar, he worked in Taunton, Hobart and Melbourne. Vaughan moved to Exeter as a locum Consultant in February 2002 and was appointed nine months later as general paediatrician with an interest in neonatology and paediatric nephrology. He became interested and involved in medical management from the outset and served as lead clinician in Child Health at the RD&E hospital from 2004 and was promoted to Clinical Director of Child & Women’s Health in 2009.

Commenting on his appointment Dr Lewis said: “ I recognise that whilst I do not have the same depth of experience as my predecessors in this post, I hope that my energy and enthusiasm to improve services through intelligent service re-design and commissioner  collaboration will demonstrate my commitment to the long term future of the Trust.  I look forward to the challenge ahead and to working with clinical teams throughout the Royal Devon & Exeter.”
