Safeguarding Declarations
The Board of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is assured that the following are in place in line with the recommendations of the Care Quality Commission to ensure that systems and processes are in place to safeguard all our patients whether they are children, young people or vulnerable adults.

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust meets all the statutory requirements in relation to Criminal Records Bureau checks;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has a child protection policy in place that meets the requirements of Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010);

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has a safeguarding vulnerable adults from risk policy that meets the requirements of No Secrets (2000) and Devon multi agency policy and procedures;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has a process in place that meets with the standards agreed by the South West Strategic Health Authority to ensure all children who miss an outpatient appointment for whom there are safeguarding concerns are flagged with the referrer;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has an Integrated Safeguarding Committee chaired by the Director of Nursing and Patient Care;

All eligible staff within the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have undertaken level 1 child protection training and training in safeguarding adults and the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act/DoLs;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has undertaken an audit of safeguarding training needs and outcomes and all recommendations are being delivered;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has lead safeguarding professionals - Named Doctor, and Nurse for Safeguarding Children to fulfil the requirements of Working Together to Safeguard Children (2010);

To ensure the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and No Secrets (2000), the Named Doctor for Safeguarding Adults, the Lead Nurse for Safeguarding, and Trust Lead for Safeguarding Adults are in post;

The Board level Executive Lead with the responsibility for safeguarding in the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, is the Director of Nursing and Patient Care and is a member of the Devon Safeguarding Children’s Board;

The Medical Director and Named Doctor for Safeguarding Adults are members of the Devon Safeguarding Adults Board;

The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust have a Learning Disability Liaison Nurse who supports patients with Learning Disabilities to access acute care. This role is part of the Safeguarding Team and reports to the Integrated Safeguarding Committee via the Safeguarding Adults Operational Group.
