Welcome to Exeter Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Centre

You are here: Exeter Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Centre

The Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is part of a network of hospitals serving patients with Upper Gastro-intestinal cancers across Devon and Cornwall.

We work alongside colleagues from The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust at Treliske Hospital, Truro, and from Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Patients within our catchment area will typically come to the Royal Devon & Exeter for diagnosis. When a diagnosis confirms the patient has a cancer, their care and treatment will be discussed and agreed by surgeons from all three hospital trusts.

All patients have the support of a cancer nurse specialist, who explains what patients can expect, advise on practical matters like travel and accommodation, and answer any questions patients or their families may have.

Some patients may need chemotherapy or radiotherapy as part of their treatment which can be provided at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) if this is more convenient for the patient. The operation will be performed by a specialist team at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.  After surgery, patients who need to have further treatment or follow-up appointments can arrange for this to take place at the Royal Devon & Exeter.
