New car parking meters at the RD&E
The trust has recently installed new car parking machines within the hospital grounds. When paying for a car parking ticket the user will be required to enter the last three characters of their vehicle registration. The registration number will be printed on the ticket which must be clearly displayed in the vehicle and visible from the outside. The machines that require the inputting of the registration number have step by step guides displayed on the machines.
As of May 2011 we will be offering an initial free twenty minute parking for Patients and Visitors to the Hospital. A free ticket can be obtained from the car parking machines which will require the last three characters of the vehicle registration to be entered to be valid. Please be aware that any visit to the hospital that is likely to require a stay of over twenty minutes will require payment in line with the displayed car parking tariff charges.
Disabled car parking
There are free disabled parking near all the main entrances and at car park C (by entrance A at Wonford Hospital). If you display the blue disabled badge in your windscreen you can park for free in our pay and display car parks.
Car parking charges at Wonford and Heavitree Hospitals
The RD&E Trust has provided free parking for patients attending the Wonford and Heavitree sites for regular treatment, for a number of years. The main, although not exclusive, areas that we currently provide free parking for are:
-
Cancer Services
-
Haematology
-
Renal Dialysis
-
Paediatric Oncology
-
Special Care Baby Unit
-
Diabetes
-
Disabled badge holders
In addition free parking is given to parents who are resident at the hospital as a result of their children being inpatients or who have individual requirements warranting special consideration.
Under section 7 of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 Hospitals were permitted and encouraged to introduce Income Generation schemes, to fund their services.
The current charges for the RD&E on site parking at Wonford and Heavitree as from October 1 2010 are as follows:
-
£2.00 for up to two hours
-
£4.00 for up to four hours
-
£8.00 for all day parking
-
£24.00 for a weekly ticket
In recent years charges, both to staff for parking permits and Pay and Display, have been made after taking into consideration the need to both maintain the existing patient services and providing alternatives to parking.
Income from parking is re-invested by the Trust in green travel initiatives including the funding of the dedicated hospital park and ride service from Digby which about 1000 staff, patients and visitors use daily and consequently significantly reduces parking congestion at the hospital.
Car parking near Heavitree Hospital
In addition to the pay and display parking detailed above there is an alternative car park at the Triangle Car Park which is situated approximately ten minutes away. This is not run / managed / owned by the RD&E. To get to this car park take the first right after the police station when coming from Heavitree hospital.
