Explanation / description:

Clyst is an Acute Stroke Unit and is staffed by a large Multi-Disciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, a Speech and Language Therapist, and a Ward Clerk

 

We provide a stroke nurse practitioner service who are on call every day, they receive referrals and access all suspected stroke and TIA patients and arrange direct admission to the unit.

 

We also run a daily TIA clinic

Enter the hospital via the main entrance go up one level and take the E link corridor which lies at a right angle to the main corridor. Clyst is situated just on the left at the end of the corridor

Stroke patients tire easily and are very susceptible to infection – please ensure you are fit to visit and be prepared to cut your visit short if advised to do so

What’s in the communal room:

We have a large dayroom in which meals are taken by our more stable patients. This room is also equipped with a variety of resources for activities such as reading, listening to music, playing cards, completing jigsaws etc (all resources have been purchased via fundraising activities). There are also a variety of information leaflets and educational resources to enable patients and families to learn more about stroke
