The vascular surgeons in Exeter accept referrals of a full range of arterial and venous problems. They work in close collaboration with the interventional vascular radiologists to provide a comprehensive and modern service.
Referral
The patients we most commonly see for advice and treatment comprise:
Patients with arterial disease, including

intermittent claudication

abdominal aortic aneurysms (and peripheral aneurysms but not aneurysms affecting the aorta near the heart)

carotid disease

renal access requirements (specialist service provided by Mr Andrew Cowan and Mr David Birchley)

thoracic outlet syndrome (specialist service provided by Mr John Thompson)

excessive sweating or blushing – causing major psychological illness (specialist service provided by Mr John Thompson)
Venous disease

varicose veins causing complications (including skin changes, ulcers, and bleeding)

varicose veins causing significant symptoms (but not simply cosmetic)
