Macleod Diabetes & Endocrine Centre
Welcome to the website of the Macleod Diabetes & Endocrine Centre, at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.
The Diabetes, Endocrine & Vascular Health Centre was originally opened in December 2006. In February 2010, it was renamed the Macleod Diabetes & Endocrine Centre in memory of the late Dr Kenneth Macleod, a much-loved doctor and colleague, and inspirational leader.

Specialist diabetes services include:
- general diabetes clinics for people with more complex diabetes needs;
- diabetes and pregnancy clinic for women who are planning to become, or are, pregnant;
- diabetes nephropathy clinic for people who have diabetes-related kidney problems;
- diabetes podiatry clinic for people with diabetes-related foot problems that require specialist attention;
- young persons' diabetes clinic (in collaboration with paediatric specialists);
- cystic fibrosis-related diabetes - we provide input to the clinic run by the respiratory specialists;
- specialist education for type 1 diabetes including carbohydrate-counting and DAFNE courses;
- insulin pump therapy.
Specialist endocrine services include:
- general endocrine clinics e.g. for conditions relating to the adrenal, parathyroid and pituitary glands. We also offer some treatments for sexual function and fertility, but not treatments such as IVF.
- thyroid clinics for conditions including overactive thyroid, enlarged thyroid (goitre) and thyroid lumps.
- thyroid eye disease clinics for patients with eye problems associated with Graves' disease.
joint pituitary clinics in collaboration with the neurosurgical unit at Plymouth.
