Frequently asked Questions about the service

How can I arrange an ultrasound scan?
You need to see your Doctor or Midwife to be referred for an NHS ultrasound scan. Unfortunately we are not able to offer private ultrasound scans.

I’ve lost the forms I had to sign before my scan. Can I download another one?
Yes, look under “How do I prepare for my scan?”

How long should I allow for my appointment?
We would advise allowing at least 2 hours for your appointment. The ultrasound scan usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes but this may be only part of your attendance and you should allow for possible delays.

Can I have a 3D or 4 D scan at the R D & E Centre for Women’s Health?
We do have 3D and 4D facilities which are used for NHS diagnostic and research purposes.  However there is no private service for this at the RD and E.

What should I do if I am unwell in my pregnancy?
If at any time during your pregnancy you have concerns regarding either your health or the health of your baby, please don't hesitate to contact your GP or your midwife. Please ring in to rearrange your scan if you have diarrhoea, vomiting or a raised temperature.
