Inpatient Stay - Patient Identification Bands

You are here: Home \ Patients & Visitors \ Inpatient Stay \ Patient Identification Bands

Two identification bands will be placed on you when you are admitted to hospital. The bands will be placed on both arms or on an arm and a leg. This is to ensure that we are safely able to identify you even if one of the bands is removed for any reason.

The band contains details such as your name and hospital number. Nurses and doctors can then easily identify you before carrying out all procedures such as giving medicine or taking you into theatre.

It is important to make sure that you have an identification band on at all times during your stay in hospital. If you do not have a band on or it becomes unreadable or uncomfortable please ask a nurse to give you a new one.
