The RD&E has over 400 volunteers supporting staff in a variety of ways from providing a mobile library unit to supporting staff in the clinical environment.

We have a mixture of independent volunteers and those provided by external voluntary organisations. The organisations we currently work with include:

We also have internal groups such as The League of Friends and The Comforts Fund (primarily working in Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre) who depend on volunteers to function. Our Chaplaincy department is also supported by volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering, you should be 18 years of age or over. The applicant must be willing to attend a one day Trust induction.  The induction day is held on a Monday and starts at 09.15 until 4.15pm.  Applicants must also be prepared to attend their GP surgery or Practice nurse to ensure they are up to date with their vaccinations.

There is also a requirement for yearly updates in things like moving and handling, fire and control of infection issues.

Potential volunteers should be willing to undertake a police CRB check, these are undertaken if the volunteer is helping with children or vulnerable adults and apply to anyone working within the Trust whether in a voluntary or permanent capacity.
