ward based volunteer.

We are currently recruiting new volunteers for the following opportunities

The RD&E has over 300 volunteers supporting staff in a variety of ways from meeting and greeting patients to supporting staff in the clinical environment.

We have a mixture of independent volunteers and those provided by external voluntary organisations. The organisations we currently work with include:

Hospital Radio, RVS, Force Cancer Charity and the Exeter Leukaemia Fund

We also have several internal groups such as the Chaplaincy Team who are strongly supported by volunteers.

If you are thinking of volunteering, please note:

If you are interested please Telephone: 01392 406058 and leave a message or email rde-tr.volunteers@nhs.net

Please note: We focus recruitment on those volunteer placements currently with vacancies. Unfortunately we sometimes have more volunteers applying than roles to fill. If there is nothing below that seems to suit, please check again at a later date or visit www.do-it.org.uk for more volunteering opportunities locally.

Opportunity: Volunteers Required

Twiddlemuff comforters are colourful knitted hand-warmers/muffs, which are knitted & donated by the public for our elderly patients. They are particularly useful for patients with dementia who often have restless hands so Twiddlemuffs are ideal as they have attachments such as ribbons, large buttons and textured fabrics that provide a source of stimulation at the same time as keeping hands snug and warm.

We need a volunteer to help us to acknowledge twiddle muff donations and coordinate with wards to arrange delivery and replenish their stocks.

We are looking for someone who is a good communicator and would be at ease talking to members of the public and ward staff. It is also important they have a good general fitness to walk the distances required to deliver to wards.

If you are interested please contact the PALS office on 01392 402093
or email rde-tr.volunteers@nhs.net

Opportunity: Volunteers for Paediatric Out-Patients

Department: Paediatric Outpatients

Hours: By negotiation with applicants (Clinics are held between 08.45-17.00 & we would require the volunteer to do a minimum of 2 hours.)

Duties/Requirements

We are looking for volunteers to welcome and assist with the smooth flow of patients through the Paediatric Outpatient clinics. The Paediatric reception is shared with Oral Surgery reception so it gets confusing for patients and parents.

We need volunteers to escort children, young people and their families from Reception to the waiting areas, as well as transporting their health records - so a reasonable level of fitness is expected.

Children in those clinics range in age from 0 – 18 years with the majority being under the age of 6. It is desirable for the applicant to have experience with children and families so they can help put anxious parents and children at ease.

It is a noisy clinic area so a reasonable level of hearing would be required to be able to communicate effectively with patients, parents and staff.

If you are interested please email rde-tr.volunteers@nhs.net
or telephone 01392 402093.
